Do you have any pets?? Unfortunately none yet....
How long have you been online journaling? Nearl 4 years!
Why do you like online journaling? Lets me be myself, lets me share creative stuff and my own analysis
What are some of your hobbies? I like a lot of technical stuff so I like analyzing things, I also like being creative so I'm slowly developing more confidence to share my comics and art! I LOVE music and rock is my life! Also a big fan of DIY'ing shit. Reading is cool and so is gaming but I hardly do the latter anymore.
Favorite bands/artists: Ozzy Osbourne, Morbid Saint, Iron Maiden, Crowbar, Helloween, Morbid Angel, The County Medical Examiners, Metallica, lexycat, The Phantom's Revenge, Sweet Trip, Breakbot, Yuji Ohno, Marcos Valle, Ayako Saso, Yosuke Yasui

Is your journal friends only, partial or public?: It's all public
How often do you update?: More than I want to (working on that)
What do you want in an DW friend?: Mentally ill and doing their best, independent, fun to banter with/talk to, also into weird niche shit, not easily scandalized and very interested in hearing other perspectives.
Any closing words/quotes/pictures/gifs/anything else you'd like to add: I don't believe media exists in a vacuum and reflects on us, so I'm not interested in people who tend to excuse distasteful "humor" or fetishistic depictions of say, child abuse, as being "just fiction" or "just a joke." (Please ask before adding me, it makes me uncomfortable when people just add me, even if they're announcing they're going to do it)
no subject
I've seen you around on friends' journals and actually been thinking about asking to add you because your comments have always been very supportive and thoughtful. So it's nice to see you in this meme.
My name is Tina, I am 37 and live in Germany, also a big music lover and reader. While we don't have a lot of artists and books in common, I'm always interested to check out other people's favourites ;)
I'm mentally ill and doing my best as well, and interested in hearing different perspectives myself, that's actually one of my favourite aspects of DW.
As for your last point...I don't think I consume any media that's like what you describe (certainly NOT child abuse!). As for humour, I can have a bit of an odd sense of humour but I don't joke about sensitive topics or find abuse etc. funny and I do my best to never offend anyone as much as possible.
If you do want to give being friends a try, I would love to, and concerning the above, if I ever hurt you, you would be more than welcome to tell me so and I'd do my best to make up for it. If you don't want to, of course no offense will be taken on my side ;)

you sound like a really interesting and cool person & I think I'd like to get to know you.
My name is Tina, I'm 37 and live in Germany with my cat Lucy. I love that you keep parrots, I used to have different kinds of those amazing birds when I was younger.
What you wrote about why you like online journalling also really spoke to me - I feel the same although I started out on LJ, not Deviantart.
Love Florence & the Machine and Godzilla movies too and I am a big fan of nuanced and critical thinking, which seems to become way too rare on the internet these days :(
Want to give it a try?
(Oh, and may I ask where your subject line is from?)
Re: killed god with a pipe & a girlboss attitude
sorry for the long wait; i've been getting back into the post-holiday swing.
omgg, i LOVE the name lucy. ;-; what color of coat does she have? black and gray cats have always had a special place in my soul. void babies are silly-sweet, and i just love gray when it comes to animal coloration.
y'know, i feel like i had a livejournal back in the day, i just don't think i ever got into a routine of using it. 6-6 but yes, i miss spaces like those. DA was far from perfect, and nostalgia could very well be coloring my memories, but it was nice for what it was and while it lasted. need more pockets like dreamwidth floating around.
i'm down to clown and get to know ya, too! >:U *gently fistbumps you*
hahaha, and my subject line is a quote from a video essay on silent hill 3. >xD i don't remember which specific video off the top of my head, but i could probably find it again if that's a thing you'd be interested in checking out! uou
Re: killed god with a pipe & a girlboss attitude
It's lovely to meet you too and I added you back now :)

Age/Location: late 40s/Boston, MA, USA
Occupation; Lab manager in an academic research lab, focused on cornea research. As a lab manager, I am part scientist, part bureaucracy navigator, and unfotunately, part mom.
Do you have any pets?? Two cats, Ashmont Pixie and Hanna Valentina. I love dogs too, and volunteered at cat shelters for eight years.
How long have you been online journaling? Since 2003. I started on LiveJournal and came here after the Russians.
Why do you like online journaling? It started out as a way to connect with people with similar interests. With the rise of social media, I've come to appreciate Dreamwidth more. No algorithims, no bots, no ads, no performative posts, no fake stories for attention, no censorship of random words, just a bunch of people rambling about whatever is on their minds.
What are some of your hobbies? Baking, puzzles, biking, board games, reading, writing. I have one self-published book and I run a critique group. For biking, I commute to work in the warm months and try to do distance rides on weekends. I'm not fast, but I try my best. Also currently working on strength training.
Things I am interested in: queer history, bicycling safety/infrastructure advocacy, opposing diet culture, plane crash investigations, medical history,
Favorite bands/artists:
Uhhhh...my music taste is largely stuck in 1997.
Favorite TV shows: Of shows that are currently running, Doctor Who, Star Trek (anything but Enterprise because I hate the theme song), Severance, and as of Tuesday, I can add The Pitt. My 9 year old watches a lot of Phineas and Ferb, so by proxy I'm watching it too.
I'm gravitating more towards documentaries and limited series.
I'm doing more programs on YouTube these days. I enjoy Sean Munger, Tasting History with Max Miller, Mentour Pilot, Making Gay History, and Adam Wright Fitness.
Favorite movies: Airplane!, Back to the Future, Dr. Strangelove, Spaceballs. Apparently my movie taste is also stuck in the past.
Favorite books:: The Great Believers, The Time Traveler's Wife, Parable of the Sower and Parable of the Talents, Down Among the Sticks and Bones, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I'm currently on a big Frederik Backman kick.
Other fandoms: Nah.
Is your journal friends only, partial or public?: Friends only
How often do you update?: Daily or every other day
What do you want in an DW friend?: Don't be a dick.

Do you have any pets?? A cat named Booker and two human children?
How long have you been online journaling? Been journaling since I was 15 in 2001! Started with Livejournal than moved everything onto here a few years ago. I never left LJ/DW.
Why do you like online journaling? I like being able to see what I did a bunch of years ago. Especially now that I have kids, I like looking back and seeing what my kids have done or how much they've grown. I post a lot of pictures. It's just been fun to look back on.
What are some of your hobbies? I enjoy photography, drawing, stationary, crochet, watercolor, weight lifting, swimming, and reading!
Favorite bands/artists: My tastes range from Taylor Swift to Metallica to Slipknot, lol. I like most a lot of different things.
Favorite TV shows: Currently watching Plur1bus, which is so fun. Severence, Battlestar Galactica, Buffy, The Summer I Turned Pretty, The Great British Baking Show. I used to watch a lot of TV, but nowadays, I don't watch that much because I'm trying to do less screen time and do more reading.
Favorite movies: Knives Out (the first one), Edge of Tomorrow, Equilibrium, Shang Chi, Hush.
Favorite books: I have so many, but one of my favorites that I feel like is underrated is Six Crimson Cranes. I also used to love the Harry Potter series but gave it up because JK Rowling is a TERF. I also enjoy the Hunger Games series.
Other fandoms: I enjoy gaming. I don't have a lot of time to do it anymore, but I'll get my hands on one and binge for a month or so. Like Death Stranding, Baldur's Gate III, Skyrim, Dragon Age series, Mass Effect, Dishonored.
Is your journal friends only, partial or public?: Friends Only.
How often do you update?: I update very regularly. I usually average 3x a week. Sometimes I'll do a few days in a row if I have something to say. But since 2001 I've not missed more than a week. Journaling is a habit that is very ingrained in me.
What do you want in an DW friend?: Basically looking for someone active. People who wrote long "boring" entries about their lives. I love reading about everyone's jobs, relationships, children, hobbies, and lives. I have been consistent in journaling since 2001 and am looking for consistency. I also am anti-bigots and pro-vaccine, so I'd like someone on similar wavelengths.

Occupation: I'm a PhD chemist and have historically worked in semicon, but these days I am underemployed.
Do you have any pets?? Three cats — Gid, Hilda, and the Little Cat. :)
How long have you been online journaling? Since 2003. I've been on DW since 2012, mirrored entries for this journal date back to 2005.
Why do you like online journaling? It's a way to organize my thoughts and reflect on stuff, with the added bonus of tags etc making it possible to find stuff from ages back.
What are some of your hobbies? I'm big into writing and talk about it a lot. I'm also a fiber-arts person (think cross-stitch, crochet, quilting, etc), I read a fair amount, and I run a godawful lot of tabletop (D&D, Monster of the Week, and Blades in the Dark).
Favorite bands/artists: Uh, this is a loaded question. Sylvan Esso, Austra, Ladytron, the Decemberists, the National, Richard Skelton, VNV Nation... I love music and listen to a lot. I'm always down to talk about it.
Favorite TV shows: I...am not really a TV person, ha. I have gotten into Dropout? I like "Um Actually" and "Make Some Noise" (and "Game Changer" is fun too, ofc).
Favorite movies: Uh. In no particular order, "3000 Years of Longing", "Rear Window", "His Girl Friday", "V for Vendetta", "Howl's Moving Castle", "Moonstruck"... I can probably think of more, but honestly, every time someone goes, "what's your favorite [x]", my brain helpful returns a 404 error: "I have never engaged with [x] in my life." Ha.
Favorite books: The Lord of the Rings, Riddle-Master, Sunshine, The Scent Keeper, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, The Woman in White, Jane Eyre, The Left Hand of Darkness, A Deadly Education...I read a lot and again, the 404 error problem :)
Other fandoms: I love audiodramas. If you've listened to and liked The Silt Verses or Wolf 359, we should talk.
Is your journal friends only, partial or public?: It's a mix of public and not.
How often do you update?: A...couple of times a month, mostly? idk.
What do you want in an DW friend?: Uh. I will probably read and follow along. I'm pants at commenting, but I am trying to be better about it, and I don't expect comments on my posts unless you have something to say. :)
Any closing words/quotes/pictures/gifs/anything else you'd like to add: I'm also on Mastodon as titania@retro.pizza, if that gives a better overview of what I'm like ♥

Do you have any pets?? Tiamat, my black cat familiar
How long have you been online journaling? I started on LiveJournal as
Why do you like online journaling? At this point, I've been on LJ/Dw for more than half of my life; it's as normal to me as putting on clean undies in the morning. That said, since the rise of short form algorithm-based (and ad-heavy) social media, I've come to appreciate (long form, chronological, no ads) Dreamwidth more than ever. I like the community here and I like writing and reading about everyone's real daily life, not just the "highlight reels" on other social media sites.
What are some of your hobbies? I'm really into dolls lately; I'd say I collect them but I immediately take everyone out of their box and love nothing more than to stuff a doll in my backpack and take them out for photos somewhere in Tokyo. I also crochet and I used to write picture books and hope to get back into that next year…
Favorite bands/artists: U2, Florence + The Machine, Bastille, Mumford & Sons… (I don't have great taste in music and it's not a big thing for me.)
Favorite TV shows: Saiyuki: Reload: Zeroin, His Dark Materials, Interview with the Vampire, Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Favorite movies: The Road to El Dorado, Rush Hour, Lilo & Stitch, The Lord of the Rings, Thor: Ragnarok (Are we sensing a theme, here? I love buddy movies.)
Favorite books: (always) His Dark Materials, The Lord of the Rings/The Silmarillion/ (recently) The Hours Have Lost their Clock: The Politics of Nostalgia, Saving Time: Discovering a Life Beyond the Clock, Strange Creatures
Favorite anime/manga: Saiyuki, TSUBASA: REservoir CHRoNiCLE, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Is your journal friends only, partial or public?: My journal is friends only but I post creative work publicly at
How often do you update?: It depends: from 3-5 times a week to 1-3 times a day. (I sometimes get hit by bouts of hypergraphia; I'll backdate posts if it starts getting excessive (more than 2 or so posts in a day) so I don't spam everyone's flist.)
What do you want in a Dw friend?: I'm looking for someone who posts about their daily life, whatever that means for you and who comments sometimes. (I don't expect comments on every post but it's nice to hear from you occasionally.) I'm happy to read about your current squee or project but I'm not looking to friend mostly fic journals.
Any closing words/quotes/pictures/gifs/anything else you'd like to add: I won't add anyone younger than 21. Thanks for understanding.

Favorite TV shows: I love paranormal programs (Ghost Adventures, Ancient Aliens), nerdy nature and archaeological shows (Shark Week, Expedition Unknown), old school cartoons (Scooby, Loony Tunes), and hockey

How long have you been online journaling? Forever!! Not really, but close; I started with MyDearDiary in 2000/1 and then moved to Livejournal shortly thereafter, and continued on LJ until the last year or so when I stopped manually cross-posting from DW.
Why do you like online journaling?I love the community built up around our thoughts and writing, rather than quick, pithy hits on other social media. Also, folks are more likely to get real here, rather than showing only the "best bits" like on Facebook or Instagram, for example.
What are some of your hobbies? reading, handwritten letters/cards (although I don't really have as many penpals these days, so hit me up if you are interested!), podcasting (although I'm on hiatus right now due to general life and now surgical recovery), cooking, and baking. I'm sure there are others that I have forgotten.
Favorite bands/artists: I like a lot of different stuff, from Sabrina Carpenter to classical. I'm not as keen on heavy rap or country, although there are exceptions to every rule. I like a lot of stuff from the 1980s/90s.
Favorite TV shows:Still love Parks & Rec, and Community. Severance is really good. I never watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so I've started watching that and am enjoying it. But my newest love is for another older show, Farscape. I have never seen it and I just finished season 2.
Favorite movies: I don't actually watch a lot of movies - trying to change this - but this year I really enjoyed KPop Demon Hunters and Sinners.
Favorite books: My all-time favorite is Anne of Green Gables. I read a lot of books in a year (at least 50, usually more, so faves change a lot).
Other fandoms:I'm not really into fandom. There are lots of things I like, but I don't think it approaches the level of fandom.
Is your journal friends only, partial or public?:Mostly friends-only. I make my media posts public, where I talk about shows and books, to give new readers a flavor of my interests.
How often do you update?:Usually a couple of times a week, at least.
What do you want in an DW friend?:Some things in common is not necessary as I like different perspectives, but if your journal is mostly about fandom, we probably won't mesh. I also don't tolerate homophobia, transphobia, racism, or any other "isms and phobias" of this type.

Why do you like online journaling? The sense of community, the oldweb feel, the privacy, and the intentional pace
What are some of your hobbies? Reading and writing are the biggest. Cooking, museums, handicrafts. Used to be really into plants until enough cats came along.
Favorite bands/artists: Too many to list, but currently I have been listening to a lot of Rose Betts, Rosalia, and The Longest Johns.
Favorite TV shows: Too many things to discuss here!
Favorite movies: I'm yourlastheroine on Letterboxd if you want to take a look at what I watch. I am a member of the Criterion Channel but not snotty about it.
Favorite books: Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is my favorite book. My favorite authors include Banana Yoshimoto, Neal Stephenson, Raymond Chandler, A.S. Byatt, E.B. White, and my favorite genres are fantasy, scifi, and social history.
Other fandoms: The scifi community as a fandom. I realize this is weird but it scratches both the fandom itch and the social history itch at the same time. My past fandoms are listed in my stickied intro post.
Is your journal friends only, partial or public?: Friends only! Comment to be added.
How often do you update?: Haven't even started writing yet. Maybe once a week.
What do you want in an DW friend?: Discussion! Shared interests! Slice of life! I love seeing how people tick.

how long have you been online journalling? I was on LJ c. 2010, but I haven’t found other platforms that I liked using. (I use tumblr but not as a journal.)
why do you like online journaling? I like corresponding with people, and I like longer-form writing. I like that DW doesn’t have algorithms, ads or notifications. I like the pace. I hope to curate a blogging experience that is sort of the antithesis of tumblr, lol.
what are some of your hobbies? Writing, sketching, reading (mostly dead authors/poets and history), sewing, long walks, museums/galleries, design. I want to learn dressmaking and ham radio.
favourite bands/artists: Julia Kent, Public Service Broadcasting, The Felice Brothers, Old Blind Dogs.
favourite TV shows: The Singing Detective, Barkskins, Dark, 1899, Manhattan, Shtisel, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Quatermass and the Pit, HBO war shows.
favourite movies: Wings of Desire, The Third Murder, La Jetée, The Day of the Jackal, The Right Stuff, The Proposition, Master and Commander, Alien, An American Werewolf in London.
favourite books: Lud-in-the-Mist, Dracula, The Lord of the Rings, I Capture the Castle, Gormenghast, The Master and Margarita, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. My favourite writers are Patricia Highsmith, Wilkie Collins, M. R. James, Shirley Jackson, Daphne du Maurier, Virginia Woolf, Raymond Chandler, and (for light reading) Agatha Christie.
other fandoms: I like going to the theatre. I prefer to read/watch things when there isn’t a lot of hype around them (sometimes this involves waiting a few years!). I’m very tired of franchises.
is your journal friends only, partial or public?: Mostly public.
how often do you update?: I try to post at least once a week and not more than once a day. I like to keep a reading log by posting an excerpt from each book; I don’t generally write reviews. I post about everyday life sometimes but not in great detail.
what do you want in an DW friend?: I treat the internet like I’m chatting with strangers in line at the grocery store / like I’m sending postcards to friends. I like to interact with DW friends regularly (I probably won’t comment on every entry and I don’t expect that everyone will comment on all of mine, but I like to maintain correspondence). I like people whose hobbies are mostly offline. I’m not very interested in fandom, despite occasionally creating things for it. I enjoy “sensitively unsentimental” discussions of fiction, though. I care about politics but I don’t post about politics.
